Many still remember the zoos from their childhood: lions turned their small circles in barred cages and birds sat under nets, unable to fly. In European zoos, these times are mostly over, also because visitors no longer accept this sight.
Enclosures have grown and are now better adapted to the needs of their residents. Nevertheless, there are fundamental questions about the meaning of a zoo. Does it contribute to the protection of species or are the animals pure entertainment for us humans?
